Catchpool valley, early autumn places a live performance by solo vibraphone in conversation with the sounds of the natural environment. The work derives from the idea of a site-specific performance event, transplanted into a concert situation. The soundtrack provides a background, and the image of a location. We hear birds, and water, and trees moving in the wind. Within this context, the notation is open ended, so that the performance responds to, and is guided by the recorded sound.
The audio material was recorded in Catchpool Valley, in the southern part of Remutaka Forest Park.
